MATCH REVIEW
DPR Korea Pave their Way to Victory from Preliminary Rounds with Consecutive Wins
Both teams entered this match with back-to-back victories. A win in this game would mean a victory in the competition. Korea REP used a 4-2-3-1 formation which centred around defensive midfielders KWON HAHNUL and CHO SOHYUN speedily passing the ball in a high spot on the field.
Left-wing JUNG SEOLBIN and right-wing LEE GEUMMIN took turns broaching the opposition striking zone, creating a number of chances for their team. However, DPR Korea, using a 4-4-2 formation, established a rigid defensive line which kept the other side from entering the penalty box.
The moment the DPR Korea defenders regained possession of the ball a long pass was made to the team’s two strikers, the fast-paced RA UNSIM and the towering KIM YUNMI, who carried the ball toward goal. As the game progressed, a free kick taken by left-footer centre-back YUN SONGMI bounced off the Korea REP wall and changed trajectory, and tucked itself in the back of the net. Attempting to redeem themselves.
Korea REP saw LEE MINA cunningly cut through the opposition from leftfield to fire a shot that hit the right post. After that the side also created some chances from good spots on the field with various headers and shots.
However, none of these found their way into the mouth of the DPR Korea goal. At the end of the first half defender LIM SEONJOO connected with a corner kick taken by KWON HAHNUL. Unfortunately, the ball skimmed the right post. In response to the Korea REP attack, the 6th minute of the second half saw DPR Korea REP managed to steal the ball in the centre of the pitch, allowing RA UNSIM to assist WI JONGSIM in carrying through a colourful one-two manoeuvre, finding KIM YUNMI at the right juncture. KIM YUNMI broke the defensive lines and scored a second goal for her team.
Ten minutes into the second half, Korea REP began striking with three forwards in the hopes of increasing its attacking force, though DPR Korea number ten RA UNSIM used her speed to weave a number of counterattacks into the game – and vie for another goal for DPR Korea.
With players now pulling muscles and fatiguing, the defensive stability the DPR Korea side maintained allowed it to win three games in a row and secured the second tournament championship in a row, leaving a wave of joyous screams in their wake.
