MATCH REVIEW
The first game of the fourth day of the EAFF E-1 FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP 2022 FINAL JAPAN took place July 24th, with Korea Rep. facing off against Hong Kong.
Hong Kong had two early scoring chances, starting with a corner kick in the first minute that dropped on the top of the net. Two minutes later, WONG WAI tried to score after Hong Kong intercepted a Korea Rep. player’s pass, but was stopped by Korea Rep. goalkeeper SONG BUMKEUN.
Korea Rep. counterattacked in the 9th minute, with CHO, YOUNGWOOK missing a scoring opportunity when he headed the ball just over the goal.
In the 17th minute, Korea Rep. midfielder KANG, SEONGJIN had a direct kick from near the penalty area. The ball rebounded off of another player before bouncing off the bottom of the crossbar and into the net, an unorthodox goal that gave Korea Rep. a 1-0 lead over Hong Kong.
KANG, SEONGJIN attempted to seize another opportunity in the 32nd minute with a shot from inside the penalty area, but the ball went out off the left goalpost.
Hong Kong attempted to step up their offense. In the 39th minute, VASUDEVA DAS LILLEY NUNEZ deflected a pass from the teammate in the penalty area, but the ball was caught by Korea Rep. goalkeeper SONG, BUMKEUN.
Korea Rep. had a corner kick in the 56th minute. The ball sailed into the penalty area for midfielder SONG, MINKYU to take the shot, but he hit the right goalpost.
Korea Rep. continued to press for a second goal. In the 74th minute, captain HONG, CHUL received a mid-long pass on the left wing and scored from inside the penalty area off of Hong Kong goalkeeper CHAN KA HO, giving Korea Rep. a 2-0 lead.
Korea Rep. remained on the offensive. In the 86th minute, HONG, CHUL passed the ball from near the penalty area to KANG, SEONGJIN, who headed the ball into the net for his second goal of the match, giving Korea Rep. a 3-0 lead. Hong Kong could not recover, and Korea Rep. took their second victory at the final whistle.
