Chung Monggyu, president of Korea Football Association(KFA) has won a seat on FIFA Council. President Chung was elected by acclamation to a FIFA Council membership at the Asia Football Confederation(AFC) Congress, held in Four Seasons Hotel in Manama, Bahrain on May 8. His term is for two years until 2019.
FIFA council, former FIFA Executive Committee, is FIFA‘s main decision-making body which decides major policies of the world football. President Chung Monggyu is the second Korean to take a seat on FIFA's supervisory body followed by Chung Mongjoon, the former president of KFA who previously served on the now-abolished FIFA Executive Committee from 1994 to 2011. President Chung Monggyu who failed in the last election in 2015 rechallenged and finally took a seat on FIFA Council.
Furthermore, president Chung Monggyu was also appointed as a vice-president of AFC. President Chung Monggyu served as a vice-president of AFC temporarily as China's Zhang Jilong resigned his duty as a vice-president due to his health concern. However, president Chung was officially appointed as a vice-president today and he will serve his term for the rest of two years until 2019.....
