Tashkent: As Japan’s quest to reclaim the title came to an end in the semi-finals of the AFC U23 Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2022, Joel Chima Fujita said the defeat was caused by the team finding their momentum too late.
Japan, seeking to add the 2022 title to the one won in 2016, were defeated 2-0 by a vibrant Uzbekistan side in their semi-final on Wednesday, with the loss coming just days after Go Oiwa’s side had played their best to end Korea Republic’s reign in the quarter-finals.
Defeat means instead of vying for the title in Sunday’s final, Japan will face Australia in the third-place playoff on Saturday. .....
