On Sunday 18 September, the U-19 Japan National Team played their fourth group match of the AFC U20 Asian Cup Uzbekistan 2023™ Qualifiers against the U-19 Yemen National Team at New Laos National Stadium.
Entering their fourth match in a week, coach TOGASHI Koichi rotated four players from their starting line-up against Palestine on Friday. KIMURA Ryoya (Nihon University) started in goal, with NAKANO Shinya (Sagan Tosu), TANAKA Hayato (Kashiwa Reysol), KIKUCHI Shuta (V-Varen Nagasaki), and MATSUDA Hayate (Mito HollyHock) forming the defence line. YASUDA Kenshin (Oita Trinita U-18), YAMANE Riku (Yokohama F. Marinos), and SANO Kodai (Fagiano Okayama) started in midfield, while KUMATORIYA Issei (Meiji University) and YASHIKI Yusei (Oita Trinita) were placed in the flanks, with CHIBA Kanta (FC Imabari) playing up top.
Only needing a draw to advance through, Japan proceeded with caution against the Yemeni side who showed great aggression with their man-to-man approach. Although Japan were able to possess the ball in their own territory, they struggled to find their rhythm and to create opportunities during the first half. .....
