Hong Kong: It was an eventful week in East Asian football as Ulsan Hyundai secured their first K League 1 title since 2005 on Sunday and at the same time ended nine-time winners Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors’ hopes of claiming a sixth consecutive league trophy in Korea Republic.

In Japan, Ventforet Kofu, a club languishing in 18th position of the 22-team second division, were crowned the champions of the Emperor’s Cup after stunning high-flying J1 League side Sanfrecce Hiroshima on penalties to also advance to the 2023-24 AFC Champions League group stage.

There were also plenty of goals to talk about from the domestic leagues in Hong Kong, Mongolia and Chinese Taipei, so join the-AFC.com as we review all of last week’s action from across East Asia.

Korea Republic: Ulsan end long wait for K League title

Ulsan Hyundai emerged the champions of K League 1 with a 2-1 comeback victory against Gangwon FC on Sunday, ending their wait of 17 years and alleviating their hurt of having come close to the title in 2019, 2020, and 2021 only to miss out to rivals Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors.
