Hong Kong: Kyoto Sanga will play in the J1 League again next season despite finishing third from bottom in the Japanese top division after they held J2 League challengers Roasso Kumamoto to a 1-1 draw in the relegation playoff final on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Chinese Super League has a new leader for the first time since June as defending champions Shandong Taishan ousted Wuhan Three Towns from the top position over the weekend after the long-term occupants fell to their second defeat in four matches.

Japan: Kyoto preserve top-flight status

Kyoto Sanga ensured they will be part of the 2023 J1 League after holding on for a 1-1 draw against second-tier outfit Roasso Kumamoto in the relegation playoff final in Kameoka on Sunday. Kyoto only had to avoid a defeat against Kumamoto, who had finished fourth in the second division, to remain in the Japanese top flight.
