Hong Kong: Two-time AFC Champions League™ winner Huang Bowen confirmed his retirement from football on Tuesday, announcing he was hanging up his boots on the same day his former Guangzhou Evergrande teammate Ricardo Goulart confirmed he was also quitting the game.
Huang was a key component of the Guangzhou side that won the AFC Champions League in both 2013 and 2015 and those victories were the pinnacle of a career that also saw him claim eight Chinese Super League titles and represent China PR on 44 occasions.
“There are too many people I want to thank, and I will remember them all in my heart,” Huang said in a message posted on social media. “It is with your support that I was able to grow into a better person.”
The 35-year-old started his career with Beijing Guoan and secured his first domestic title with the capital club in 2009 before moving to Korea Republic, where he won the K League title in 2011 during an 18-month stint with Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors. .....
