The East Asian Football Federation (EAFF) and the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) have renewed their longstanding partnership with the signing of an updated Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), reaffirming their shared commitment to the growth and development of football throughout East and Southeast Asia.

The MOU was officially renewed during the AFF–EAFF Joint Meeting held in Tokyo, Japan, with the presence of senior leadership from both federations, including Presidents, General Secretaries, and representatives from FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), highlighting the strategic significance of this regional alliance.

Originally established in 2017, the MOU has laid the groundwork for collaboration in various key areas. The renewed agreement expands on this foundation, with focused cooperation on:

Technical and administrative knowledge-sharing
Coordinated marketing and promotional strategies
Joint measures to combat match manipulation
Collaborative planning for international competitions and friendly matches

These initiatives aim to elevate the standard of football across both regions while strengthening bonds between member associations and football communities.

AFF President, Major General Khiev Sameth, emphasized the broader vision of the partnership, stating:

"This MOU is more than just an agreement—it is a promise. A promise that we will continue working together to grow the beautiful game, not just for today, but for generations to come. Football is more than a sport; it is a bridge that unites people beyond borders and cultures. As we sign this MOU today, let it mark not just a continuation, but a new beginning—one that we build together with heart, humility, and hope."

EAFF President, Mr. Tashima Kohzo mentioned that:
“As we move forward, there is much we can learn from one another. By sharing better and more efficient practices, we can elevate football to new heights in both regions. Together, we can build a strong partnership that benefits our organizations and enriches the lives of millions who love the beautiful game.”

One of the flagship initiatives stemming from this renewed partnership is the cooperation and support for International matches, including but not limited to the winners of AFF-EAFF Championship, Men’s and Women’s national teams and youth (boys’ and girls) national teams to in a celebration of sporting excellence and regional unity.

This renewed MOU marks an important milestone in the ongoing collaboration between EAFF and AFF and sets the stage for impactful, innovative programmes that will benefit players, fans, and stakeholders across Asia.
