The 18 Taeguk Warriors who will take part in the Rio de Janiero Olympics have been confirmed.

June 27 - On the 23rd floor of the head office building of Kyobo Life Insurance in Gwanghwamun, in the Kyobo Convention Hall, Olympic national team coach Shin Taeyong unveiled his 18-man squad for the Rio Olympics. There was a lot of interest in the three wildcard selections (players 24 years old and over). Son Heungmin (Tottenham), Jang Hyunsoo (Guangzhou R&F), and Suk Hyunjun (FC Porto) were selected. U-23 players like Hwang Heechan, Kwon Changhoon, Ryu Seungwoo, Song Juhun, and Kim Dongjun who had all been called previously, all made the final squad.

Son Heungmin and Jang Hyunsoo were selected by coach Shin early on, leaving one spot left which Suk Hyunjun took. Initially, coach Shin wanted to use the wildcard spot to compensate for a weak defense. However, coach Shin’s first choice, Hong Jeongho, was not allowed to go to the Olympics by his club team, so coach Shin had to find an alternative idea. In the end, he decided to use Jang Hyunsoo’s ability to play across the backline to strengthen it, and place more focus on beefing up the attack.....
