The jinx was not broken. Korea failed to make the very first victory in Teheran. The winless run in Azadi stadium has continued.

On October 11, Korean national team lost 0-1 to Iran in the AFC final qualifying round at Azadi Stadium in Teheran. Korea had recorded only 2 draws and 4 losses in Teheran before the match and the Taegeuk Warriors once again failed to break the jinx. In the group A, Korea went down to the 3rd place with 7 points after Iran (10 points) and Uzbekistan (9 points).

Korea started the match putting Ji Dongwon up front. Tottenham Hotspur’s Son Heungmin and Crystal Palace’s Lee Chungyong supported him from the both flanks. Iran played with a sole striker, Azmoun. A veteran attacker Ashkan Dejagah supported the strike.

Iran started attacking Korean defense line right after the referee’s whistle. In the 8’, Iranian defender Morteza Pouraliganji fired a shot into the net. But the assistant referee raised his flag and the goal was disallowed. In the 12’, Alireza Jahanbakhsh tried another shot but the ball went over the bar.
