On Friday 16 September, the U-19 Japan National Team played their third group match of the AFC U20 Asian Cup Uzbekistan 2023™ Qualifiers against the U-19 Palestine National Team at New Laos National Stadium.
Playing in their third match in five days, coach TOGASHI Koichi rotated 10 players from their starting line-up against Guam, with KIMURA Ryoya (Nihon University) starting in goal, along with a defence line consisting of NAKANO Shinya (Sagan Tosu), TANAKA Hayato (Kashiwa Reysol), KIKUCHI Shuta (V-Varen Nagasaki), and MATSUDA Hayate (Mito HollyHock). FUKUI Taichi (Sagan Tosu), YAMANE Riku (Yokohama F. Marinos) and SANO Kodai (Fagiano Okayama) were positioned in the centre, with KITANO Sota (Cerezo Osaka) and EINAGA Takatora (Kawasaki Frontale) placed in the flanks, while it was SAKAMOTO Isa (Gamba Osaka) who played as the lone striker upfront.
Palestine on the other hand, changed their style for this match and entered with a five-back formation. “I was surprised to see how deep our opponents were,” said Fukui, as the Japanese side struggled to create opportunities in the early minutes of the match. .....
