Korea Republic men’s U-20 national team have defeated defending champions Uzbekistan on penalties to reach the last four of the Asian Cup, claiming the ticket to the finals of the FIFA U-20 World Cup in the process.

Lee Changwon’s charges edged Uzbekistan after extra time and a penalty shootout in the quarter-finals of the 2025 AFC U-20 Asian Cup staged at the Youth Football Training Base in Shenzhen, China on Sunday. Korea Republic came from behind to take the lead through goals from Shin Minha in each half, before Kim Taewon doubled the advantage shortly after the hour mark. Quick-fire goals from the Uzbeks forced the match into extra time and then the penalties, where the Taegeuk Warriors had the last laugh with a 3-1 success.

Previously, Korea Republic had reached the quarter-finals by winning Group D with seven points from two wins and a draw, and they marched into the last four to grab a ticket to the world finals. The Taegeuk Warriors are up against Saudi Arabia in Wednesday’s semi-final, as they continue their quest for the continental glory. .....
