Having won numerous titles with Japan at both junior and senior level, Hasegawa achieved the first part of that dream by appearing in – and scoring at – the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France as she developed into an integral part of the Nadeshiko side after making her debut in 2017.

But despite her success for the national team and the all-conquering NTV Beleza in Japan’s WE League, it could be argued that Hasegawa’s considerable talent did not receive the recognition it warranted – at least outside of her homeland – until she moved to West Ham United in the Women’s Super League in August 2021 following a successful half-season stint with AC Milan. .....
