Korea Football Association (KFA) has appointed Hong Myungbo as the coach of men’s national team.

Chief Operating Officer Lee Limsaeng of KFA’s Technical Bureau briefed the media on the backgrounds of Hong Myungbo’s appointment at the headquarters in Seoul on Monday. As Hong is currently in charge of the K League 1 champions Ulsan HD, the both parties are expected to discuss when he should join the national team. The KFA’s contract with Hong will expire at the end of the AFC Asian Cup finals that take place in Saudi Arabia in January 2027. In fact, it took five months to find the replacement of Jurgen Klinsmann, having undergone a transition period under the guidance of interim coaches Hwang Sunhong and Kim Dohoon.

Hong was a legendary defender of Korean football, having taken part in no fewer than four FIFA World Cup finals whilst captaining his country to the semi-finals at Korea/Japan 2002. He went on to lead the Taegeuk Warriors to winning bronze medals at the Olympic Football Tournament London 2012. However, he had an unsuccessful stint at the world finals of Brazil 2014, where his side were eliminated from the group stage with a draw and two defeats. .....
